Correspondence.
To the^JEditorof tJie Lyttelton Times. Dear Sir,—Permit me to request youio correct a mis-report, which appeared inithe Jjytielton Times of Saturday, of one of the resolutions which I submitted to the Provincial Council on the Thursday previous. As this resolution was adopted by the Council, it is very desirable that it shoulchbe correctly given. The resolution was as follows:— " That this .Council taking into consideration the various plans which have been proposed for the opening such land communication, and regarding the resolutions repeatedly adopted'in former sessions in favour of the line of road now in course of construction by way of Sumner, is of opinion that that road ought not to be abandoned as the permanent line of land communication between Lyttelton and Christchurch, and that the works thereon should be carried on with as much expedition as possible by means of prison labour." , - ; The error consists in your having substituted the words "as little .expenditure as possible'?'for those which I have ,italieis,ed. I am »3ir, ' Yours truly, ' Joseph Beit^ast. Christchurch,-Nov. 22nd, 1556; " " " ' [Mr. Brittan's letter should have .appeaxed in our issue of Wednesday last, but .was accidentally mislaid. Ed. L.
