The March to the Rhine.
INHABITANTS WELCOME BRITISH TROOPS. London. December 9. Received this day, 8.40 a.m. Acorrespondent who is with the British advance on Cologne says it is an extraordinary spectacle to see the inhabitants generally welcoming the Army as deliverers rather than ,'us conquerors, and ensuring them protection against revolutionaries, lawlessness and pillage. The people's pronounced preference for the British troops indicates a- fear lest the French and Belgians .should retaliate for the outrages committed in t'li-eir countries. This fear is groundless, as the behaviour of the PrancoBelgians is proving exemplary.
