Ohakune Swept.
TWENTY PREMISES BURNT. (Special to Chronicle,) Ohakune, Nov 8. Twenty business premises were destroyed' yesterday by a fire which origin. ai;ed in the Defence gymnasuim. There was no water and the wHio-le town in danger. The fire reached the bush and se.t in ablaze. The following were the insurances:— J. A. Ly.ttle, ipainter, paperhanger, shop and dwelling £300, stock £300; A. M. Gould, Lawyer, build.ng £100, contents £150; empiy two story building, the Trocadero, Ei. Goodwin's hoot and; confectionary shops and dwelling, £-100; N. Anderson, ironmonger, shop not insured; A. J. Forsyth, stationers shop, dwelling, '."took and furniture, £550; two small empty buildings; Mrs Hooik's fruit and confectionery shop and dwelling and stock £100; J. A. Butler's drapery shop £350, stock £2000; A. H, Duck King's crockery shop £300, stock £1700; „M. Coffey (billiard room, dwelling, billiard table and effects, £350; Turner, tobacconist, in same building, stock £150; Two empiy shop,", the do. fence office, territorial hall, and Allan audi Co's butcher's shop, not insured; empty shoip formerly occupied by H. Banning, Cunninghian and Co'a pharmacy, insurance not available.
