COUNTY PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.

The monthly meeting of the :Horowhenua County Patriotic Association was held in 'Levin yesterday. Present --Messrs P. G. Goldsmith, F. P. Walk, ley (lion, secretary) and C. S. KeedwoM (Levin). P. Penn, R. S. Young and L. St. George (Otaki), H. Andrew and P. $.meox (Manakau), 'Eli Allen and G. P. Catley (Te Horo), and J. M. Richards (Ihafcara) and Mrs E. T. Gibson and Mr G. N. Stephenson (Shannon). In the absence of Mr Blenkihorn from town, Mr Goldsmith was voted to the chair.

The Te Horo branch notified that •Mr G. P. Catley had been appointed one of tHieir representatives on the Association in place of Mr C. Wildsmith resigned. The Chairman briefly welcomed tho new member.

On behalf of the West Coast Farmers' Patriotic Society, Mr B. (R. Gardener, forwarded a cheque for £497 15s 7d, balance of funds in hand, and wished the County Fund, all success. The opinion was also -expressed /that one strong fund w«ip preferable to a number of weaker ones. iThe Farmers' Society had had one case on its hand's, but the Levin Society had -taken it over. Mr Goldsmith sa.id the Farmers' Society had 'been formed a,:, the beginning of the war and had done very good work ailT along.

-Mr Andrew reported that the Manakau Society had decided] to hand over £275 of '?ts funds to the County Fund, keeping in hand £50 to relieve urgent ca.=es.

The Hon. Treasurer, Mr C. H. Pyke, submitted ia balance sheet showing the balance at last meeting to be £267 4s 7d and the receipts to have been £500 from the Otaki Patriotic Society, and .sundries £-154 Ills Id; fcotal £921 15s Bd. The outgoings were; Telephone £2 10s. stamps 10s; placed on fixed deposit £800, bank balance £118 15s Bd. The assets were: In post office £1000, war cert-frcalbes £488, on fixed deposit £800, bank balance £118 15s Bd.

Tt was decided to put £500 on fixed deposit at 4 per cent with the Bank of Ans.trala.sia.
