FUTILE COUNTER ATTACKS.
Achieve no Results. Received Oct. 25, at 10.3. a.m. London, October 24. The enemy last night attacked our position at Houthulst Wood, at the junction of the AngloFrench army, but was completely repulsed. Since Monday the enemy has delivered seven counter attacks ' without achieving material results at any points. Scare Ships : " Made in Germany.' A writer in the Daily Mail declares that Germany is building numerous diving cruisers of six to eight thousand tons and armed with eight-inch guns. They will have a world-wide iange and will be able to submerge quickly. It was probably two of them that attacked the North Sea convoy. They will add to the submarine peril, which is on its third and dangerous phase. German Chancellor to Resign. Received October 25, 8.40 a.m. New York, Oct 24. An unconfirmed report states that Dr Michaelis, the German Chancellor, has resigned. A Disgusted Norwegian. Received this day at 10.5 a.m. Christiania, October 24. Captain Amundsen has returned the German decorations awarded to him for his explorations. He says his action is a personal protest against the murders of peaceful Norwegian sailors in the North Sea convoy.
