BRILLIANT FRENCH VICTORY.
GREAT CAPTURES OF MEN AND GUNS.
[ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.I EI'ER press association.] Received Oct. 25, at 10.5, Paris, October 24. A French official report states that a new battle of the Aisne has developed favourably. The French armies have already captured 7500 prisoners and many guns, besides having fought their way to the Laon Plain. The battle began in the darkness an hour beioro the dawn. The central point of attack was Malmaison fort, which was ] defended by German Guardsmen. The Germans massed r,ix divisions on the threatened front but the French stormed villages and heights, and penetrated in the centro to a depth of miles. Malmaison Fort was in ruins but was furnished with machine gun posts connected with a labyrinth of caves and tunnels running to the German rear. Many of the German troops were forty feet below the surface. Fortunately the French held similar caverns on the southern slopes where they were able tc lodge reserves until thoy were needed.
