Horowhenua Racing Club

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING. A special general meeting of members of Horowhenua Racing Club was heltl last Tuesday evening. In the absence of the president of the club, who was away in Wellington on. business, Mr C. Blenkhorn was voted to the chair. A letter from Mr Field. M.P., in reply to the club's letter of last month, intimated that the Minister ot Internal Affairs was writing to give the club particulars of the arrangement made for the assisting of suspended clubs to meet their liabilities, such monevs to come out of the revenues of clubs which continue racing. The Minister referred to the circular letter issued by the secretary to the Placing Confeutonce. It was: noticeable, in this, that a clause in the agreement provided that in the case of dispute as to claims for reimbursements the decision of the president of the Racing Conference would be final in the dispute.

A further letter to the club mentioned. that the cluib members' subscriptions would have to go to the defraying of the club's current expenses. The district committee of each metropolitan club is charged to ascertain what moneys rare .Vefquired for assistance of suspended clubs, to meet sncli expenses as maintenance of racecourses and general payments such as interest and rent. , The meeting discussed the general question as to how the club's liabilities were to be met; there being ail amount of £150 to 1 be paid, in terms of the racecourse lease, within a month or so. Mr F. G. Roe spoke of the position of the course itself in respect to maintenance ; he though that a claim should be made. Messrs Blenkhorn wind Procter thought the club hardly could ask the conference to meet such charges, seeing -that under the lease the club paid £150 per year and the Park Company was to maintain the course. Tt was resolved that the secretary write to the District Committee's secretary, asking if the committee could see its way to advance £150 due by the chiib for Tent, in terms o? its lease of the racecourse.
