The Chronicle LEVIN. THURSDAY. AUGUST 16, 1917. THE £12.000.000 WAR LOAN.

To-day's issue of The Chronicle contains full particulars of the terms and options of the .£12.000,000 War Loan j of New Zealand. It is a most profitable form of investment; in fact it was spoken of !>y some members of Parliament, when the Loan Authorization Bill was before the House of Representatives as being too liberal; but, the Minister of Finance aplv replied to these criticisms that the money '•had to be raised," and that he must offer full inducement to the people who had money to invest to invest it in the War Loan. Undoubtedly this h afforded. The loan bears interest at the rate of -\l per cent per annum, and as it is free of income tax ah-o, the actual percentage of investment profit will work at out at 6£ per cent to jwrsons wliose Income Tax Assessments are on the higher soale. Hie minimum amount of money for which Inscribed Stock will be issued is £100, but the Governmeuit is making provision to meet the wishes of small investors who desire to invest lesser amounts. The Government intends to accept amounts of from £1 to £500 (invested for periods of five or ton years) and issue War Loan Certificates in acknowledgment. The term of the main loan will be twenty-one years, and interest will be payable halfyearly, free of exchange charges. Tll- - will have the option of at onco fully-paviiig-up their tenders of money or of doing so in four equal amounts spread over a period of six months: namely, at date of application, on 4th November next: on tth .lanuary, 1918: and on 'Ist March. 1918. Applications are to close on Monday. 3rd September, next. The War Loan undoubtedly offers gilt-edged sccuritv to people who have spare moneys awaiting investment; and, in addition, there is the satisfaction for all investors to feel that bv lending their money they are helping this dominion and the Empire generally, in th° superlative task that Great Britain and her Allies have undertaken.
