MR AYSO-VS REPORT. Horowhenua 'Lake ODomalin .'Board met last night, Mr Blenkhorn in the chair. There also were present: Messrs France. Robertson, IDempsey, and J olin ißroxighton. A report was received from Mr L. F. Ayson, chief inspector of fisheries, staging that he was of opinion that Horowhenua Lake could be successfully stocked with rainbow trout if the work was persevered with; that was to say as the spawning grounds around the lake were limited, it would bo necessary to "plant" every year from one thousand to two thousand yearling fish. If this was carried out he had every reason to hope that good .sport with this fish could bo obtained on tho lake. 'He considered the lake very well suited for perch, also, and he recommended that they should be introduced. The board, after a discussion on the report, resolved, on the motion of Messrs France and Broughton: "That the secretary to the board obtain /a a supply of percli for liberation in the lake, at a. cost not exceeding £5." Tli©' question of draining lands abutting on the lake was discussed, and tho general opinion was expressed that the best time) for carrying out this class of Avork was in May or June. The beard's secretary was' instructed to write to the engineer of the 'Horowhenua County Council, informing him that in the opinion cf the board the cleaning out of Arawhata Creek and removal of the bar from the mouth of the crcek, during the month of May, would result in advantage to landowners in the vicinity and to all concerned. Regarding the report (submitted by a special committee and adopted by the board) concerning improvements, etc., in connection with the lake, it was proposed' by Mr Robertson iand seconded by Mr. Dempsey, "That Messrs J. Broughton, Dempsey and Robertson be a deputation to wait on Levin Borough Council to request a gnant of £150 to carry out improvements on the lake, in accordance with the report submitted to and adopted by the board in March last." This was agreed to.
