£250 Donation Made to Queenstown Plunket Society
A cheque for. £250 was last week handed to the Mayoress of Queenstown to assist the Plunket Society in its Building Fund. This money was a grant from the Trust of the Sir Percy Sargood Fund and is believed to be the first time that the trustees of the fund have made a donation in the country.
In her book “ The Sparkling Waters of Wha'katipua ” Florence MacKenzie made reference to the history of William Sinclair Trotter and it was from this source that the grant originated. A grandson, Mr Stewart MacPherson, who is a member of the trust, was pleased with the mannpr in which the history of the family had been presented and because Mrs MacKenzie was endeavouring to swell the funds of the Plunket Society by signing copies of her book for an extra charge, he decided that he would do his best to got a grant from .the trust for this purpose.
£304 has been raised for the United Nations Appeal for starving children up to time of publication. The list is still open for donations.
