Popular Bus Driver Farewelled
Residents gathered in great numbers from all over the district to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs M. Miller, who are leaving the district on transfer to Tapanui,
The function in the Wanaka Hall took the form of a dance, which went with a swing to the music of McNamara’s Band.
On behalf of the district, Mr Charles Templeton .referred to Mr Miller’s popularity as a bus driver and when presenting a monetary gift, wished the Miller family well in their new home. Speaking for the Hawea district, Mr C. Capell spoke of Mr Miller’s reliable and obliging ways, while he made special of how attentive Mrs Miller was at the depot.
Mr H. Halliday spoke on behalf of the women bowlers of Wanaka and asked Mr Miller to accept a gift as a reminder of his many courtesies to the teams when travelling. Mr Miller, in replying, made mention of his pleasant stay in Wanaka and thanked the people for their gifts and good wishes. *
