Arrowtown Borough Council

Present at the ordinary meeting of the Arrowtown Borough Council held on Tuesday evening, March 30, were: — The Mayor (Mr E. T. Thompson), Councillors R. J. Cowie, J. W. Henderson, E. J. Saunders, J. W. Reed, L. Stapp and A. C. Patterson. An apology for absence was received from Cr W. J. Shaw. His Worship the Mayor reported on gn interview he had with members of the Highways Board at Wellington. The application of Mr W. H. Nairn to tap the water main was granted. Messrs Aspinal and Joel, solicitors, acting for Mrs Hartley, wrote stating that holiday dwellings were not covered by the Housing Amendment Act, The Breen Construction Co., submitted a contract price for the erection of the conveniences. As the (< plan on which the price ivas based did not include all the necessary installations, the Mayor, Crs Reed and Stapp were appointed to meet Mr Breen and discuss the price for the extras, the same to be submitted to a special meeting of the council. The Valuer General notified the council that it was necessary to appoint an assessor for any objections there might be to the valuations. Mr J. W. Miller was appointed 'subject to his- approval. The Town Clerk, Balclutha, wrote requesting support to a petition for the completion of the Beaumont-Bal-clutha road; support granted. The Main Highways Board wrote stating that it was necessary to submit detailed estimates for the 1948-49 season before May 20. The council’s estimate of £3OO for the upkeep and maintenance of the main road is to be submitted. Because of the success of the oiling of the main street, it was resolved that application to put down more oil be made to the P.W.D. The Wallace County Council, wrote stating that the borough’s levy to the Wallace Licensing Committee was £9 17s 9d.
