Wedding at Arrowtown MOORE—COWAN

An afternoon service marked the wedding on Saturday, March 27, of Esme Blanche, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Cowan, Gihbston, and Henry, son of Mr J. Moore and the late Mrs Moore, County Antrim, Ireland, at St. John’s Presbyterian Church. Arrowtown. The church was tastefully decorated by friends of the bride in pink, mauve and white asters, and sweet peas, The organist was Miss Edwards and the vicar Mr. J Doig, Cromwell. The bride chose ivory velvet embossed marquisette for her beautiful gown, featuring a heart-shaped neckline, low waisted, long sieves and pointed over the wrist to the elbow. The back of the gown was buttoned from neck-line to-waist, and had a very long train over which was worn a A T eil of scalloped tulle mounted on a headdress of orange blossom, and she carried a shower bouquet of white gladioli, asters and maidenhair fern. The bride was attended by her three cousins as bridesmaids, Miss Lottie Cowan, Waipukurau, Miss Isa Cowan, Cromwell, and Miss Joy Wilcox, Arrowtown. All girls wore beautiful long gowns of sea-foam American sheer, with very full skirts and bodices of lace with long pointed waistlines buttoned to a peak at the back, also necklines outlined with a frill of sheer and tiny rucked sleeves, and each wore a horseshoe brooch, the gift of the bridegroom. They also wore elbow length clover mittens toning with the bouquets they carried of clover, mauve and pink asters and sweet peas and maidenhair fern, and their haloes of asters and sweet peas that matched the bouquets. Gold shoes were worn by the three bridesmaids. The little flower girl, Patricia Sanders, a niece of the bride, was a miniature of the bridesmaids and wore a gold bangle, the gift of the groom. The wedding breakfast was held in the Athenaeum Hall, and the guests were received by the bride’s mother wearing a black wool georgette frock appliqued with velvet on the shoulders and a black hat She carried a bouquet of red zinnia roses and maidenhair fern, and was assisted by Mrs H. Moore, Invercargill, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, who was wearing a black suit appliqued in satin, a picture hat to match and a shoulder spray of amber zinnias. Mrs J. Nolan’s gown was of black crepe trimmed with white, a black hat and fur coat, with a shoulder spray of white roses. Mrs; E.* Sanders wore a black wool georgette suit embroidered at the shoulder with a spray of pink roses. Both Mrs Nolan and Mrs Sanders are sisters of the bride. The bride’s going-away outfit was a love in the mist blue eloque suit studded with gold burgundy accessories, and she carried a fur coat. The honeymoon is being spent touring the South Island. Their future home will be at Kaitangata. The bride was presented with a silver horseshoe at the church by Bara Moore, neice of the bridegroom. A solo. “ My Dear Soul,” was sung in the church by Mrs H. Moore. A big dance was held at Gihbston in the evening.
