OIL TO COMBAT DUST ON ROADS

At * the meeting of the Cromwell Borough Council * last Thursday night, it was suggested by Cr Lawrie to try treating Murray street with waste oil. A similar experiment was carried out on the road to the race course with excellent results. Dust on this hill has always been a nuisance to the people living in the area and it was time something was done to rectify this. When asked his opinion of the experiment, Cr Hoad, chairman of the Works Committee, said: “It would certainly hold the dust.” Cr Jelley: It seems to be a big success in Arrowtown. Cr Hodson: What quantity of oil is it likely to take? Cr Lawries said the road to the racecourse required 440 gallons, and the Mayor said that the road to the racecourse was considerably greater in area than Murray street. It was referred to the Works Committee with power to act.
