Busy Meeting of Progressive League
It was resolved at a meeting of the Queenstown. Progressive League lust week that a delegate be appointed to join with the Arrowtown Borough Council in a deputation to the Minister of Works, Hon R. Semple, when he visits the district. The deputation will request that the , State highway be taken through Arrowtown instead of over Baird’s Hill. The president of the League, Mr Jas. McDonald, was asked to confer with Captain. Herbert with a view to obtaining a sketch plan, for the perusal of the Borough Council, for a bus shelter in the vicinity of the Laurel Bank property. The acute position in Queenstown in respect of accommodation for tourists prompted some discussion in regard to the • proposed Government hostel in Queenstown. It was resolved that the league write to the South Island Local Bodies’ Association submitting the strongest case possible for an early start on the hostel. It was decided to enlist the support of the county chairman, Mr D. H. Coekburn, who would be present at the meeting. Mr W. D. Warren was appointed as delegate to the Plunket Society to act in furtherance of the new building for which plans had been prepared.
