Slump in the Skeleton Trade!

Questions about the British export situation are being asked daily, and most people are familiar with the sort of commodities that we are required to produce for overseas trade. However, during a recent 8.8.C. talk by Lester Powell listeners heard about yet another very singular article that is exported from this country. It appears that a Tory member of Parliament asked the Board of Trade a truly astonishing question. He wanted to know how many human skeletons we had exported to South Africa in the past 12 months, and the parliamentary secretary of the department concerned rose and replied without a trace of emotion, as if such a question was all part of the day’s work, “ Separate export figures are not recorded in respect of human skeletons.” Skeletons are an export!
