The Cromwell sale was also held, when an entry of 1033 sheep was submitted to auction. The offering was made up principally of two-tooth wethers interspersed with a few small pens of ewes and lambs. All classes met a keen demand throughout. Mr John S. Hunt, of Wanaka, obtained 3Cs 5d for a consignment of two-tooth wethers, while a line of Corriedale twotooth wethers sold on accout of Mr John Anderson, Kawarau Station, Bannockburn, brought. 355. Prices generally for two-tooths showed an appreciation of from 5s to 7s on last season’s rates.
Quotations: Three-quarterbred two : tootli ewes sold to 355; fat and forward two-tooth wethers, to 36s sd; Coyriedale two-tooth wethers, to 355; half bred two-tooth wethers, from 29s to 335; Southdown two-tooth ewes and wethers, to 82s 9d; full and failing mouth ewes and lambs, shorn, all counted, from 14s to 15s 2d.
The first sale in Central Otago since last season was hold at Tarras last Thursday. The offering, which numbered 1174, was the smallest for many years. There was a good attendance of buyers, and prices were the highest recorded for a considerable period. The penning was made up exclusively of two-tooth ewes and wethers, there being only one pen of the former. The top price for wethers was secured by Mr G. L. Burden, Mount Burk Station, Wanaka, these changing hands at 335. A similar line last season sold at 275. Other lines sold from 30s to 335, while small two-tooth halfbred ewes realised 32s 6d. Values generally were from 4s to 6s in excess of last season’s rates.
