“SUBSTANTIAL SUM” TAKEN WHEN DRAPER’S SHOP BROKEN INTO
After entry had been gained by forcing a back window in the premises of Mansor’s, Drapers, Ltd., Cromwell, last Thursday night two tills on the counters were robbed of what is said to be a “ substantial sum of money.” The robbery is believed to have taken place between 9 p.m. on Thursday and 9 a.m. on Friday. It is also understood that an attempt was made to open the safe on the premises as it showed signs of having been tampered with. Dead matches and burnt paper strewn about the premises are thought to have been used only for the purpose of illumination. Detective €. G. Evans arrived from Dunedin last Friday and is new in charge of the case. No arrest had been made at the time of going to press. AVI AVI A
