Successful Play Staged by Cromwell Drama Club
The Cromwell Drama Club’s rendering of Noel Coward’s three-act comedy, “ Hay Fever,” was given to a capacity House on Thursday night of last week. The play, based on the care-free and unmannerly lives of an English author and his family, was a most difficult production, and Mrs Mary Middleditch, the producer, is to be complimented on its success. Mrs Austin ably filled the long and difficult role of Judith Bliss, the retired actress, who tried to impress everyone with her former acting abilities, but
in tlio cud failed to impress anyone. The son and daughter were difficult roles excellently portrayed by Graham Carrington and Sheila Thomas. The play was not of long duration, but its popularity was measured by the audience’s enthusiastic applause. The cast was: —Miss Sheila Thomas (Rond Bliss),. Mr Graham Carrington (Simon Bliss), Mrs Marion Murray (Clara), Mrs Myra Austin (Judith Bliss), Mr John Burke (David Bliss), Mr Bachelor Collins (Sandy Tyrell), Miss Alma Jelley (Myra Arundel), Mr Dan Murray (Richard Greatham), and Mrs Beverley Campbell (Jackie Coryton). Costumes, Miss Virginia Kerr and Mrs Charlotte Duthie; furnishings and properties, Mesdames Dell Simpson and May Stumbles; sets designed by Mr John Middleditch; prompt, Miss Olive Erwin; sound effects, Mrs Sheila Waldron; lighting, Mr Reg. Waldron.
