Cromwell Successful Against Lowburn and Tarras in Tennis
Play in A grade tennis at Cromwell last Saturday was of high standard and the result, 13 sots to three in the home club’s favour, was no real indication of respective merits and demerits. Results were:— Men’s doubles: E. Goodall and W. Munro beat A. Young and I. Purvis, 9-1; G. Finlayson and E. McLachlan beat E. Col lings and L. Caiman, 9-5. Women’s doubles: Miss I. Campbell and Miss K. Gibson lost to Miss M. Jenkins and Mrs Gibson. 1-7: Miss P. Heaney and Mrs Wilkinson beat Mrs Corrnick and Miss Bell, 7-3. Men’s singles: E. Goodall beat I. Parvis, 9-3; W. Munro beat A. Young, 9-1; G. Finlayson beat E. Ceilings, 9-0; E. McLachlan beat L. Caiman, 9-4. Women’s singles: Miss I. Campbell lost to Miss Jenkins, 3-7; Miss R. Gibson beat Mrs Gibson, 7-0; Miss P. Heaney beat Mrs Cormick, 7-2; Mrs Wilkinson lost to Miss Bell, 5-7. Combined doubles: E. Goodall and Miss I. Campbell beat I. Purvis and Miss Jenkin, 9-7; W. Munro and Miss Gibson beat A. Young and Mrs Gibson. 9-7; G. Finlayson and Miss P. Heaney beat E. Ceilings and Mrs Cormick, 9-4; E. McLachlan and Mrs Wilkinson beat L. Cannan and Miss L. Bell, 9-2. In the second game of the second round (B grade) Cromwell beat Lowburn, at Lowburn, by nine sets to seven. Results were: — Men’s singles: Crookshanks beat Foote, 6-3; Perriam lost to Laurie, 3-6; R. Clark lost to Duthie, 5-6; W. Clai’k beat B. Clark, .6-10. Women’s singles: A. Willson beat N. King, 6-5; S. Bilton beat I. Rusbatch, 6-4; N. Collins lost to A. Jelley, 5-6; S. Clark lost to S. Mitchell, 3-6. Men’s doubles: Crookshanks and Perriam lost to Foote and Laurie, 2-6; R. Clark and W. Clark lost to W. Duthie and B. Clark, 4-6. Women’s doubles: A. Willson and &. Bilton beat N. King and I. Rusbatch, 6-2; N. Collins and S. Clark lost to A. Jelley and S. Mitchell, 2-6. Combined doubles: A. Willson and J. Crookshanks lost to N. King and F. Foote. 5-6; S. Bilton and C.
