Farewell to Departing School Staff Members
To farewell members of the Cromwell District High School staff who are leaving the town, a morning tea function, attended by representatives of the school committee and the Home and School Association was held at the school. Mr F. D. Oldfield, on behalf of the school committee spoke of the work done by Mr D. Simpson during his four years as headmaster, particularly of his efforts to encourage sport in the school. He wished Mr Simpson and his family every success at St. Clair. Mr It. A. McGregor, the senior secondary assistant spoke of the happy relations which had existed between the headmaster and staff during Mr Simpson’s term in the school. Mr H. J. Webb, speaking on behalf of the Home and School Association, said this organisation had been inaugurated during Mr Simpson’s headmastership, and referred to the help which had been so willingly rendered by Mr Simpson in the arrangement of programmes for the meetings held. He asked Mr Simpson to accept gifts in appreciation and good wishes from the three organisations represented there. Mr Simpson, in reply, spoke of the kindness he had experienced in Cromwell. He thanked his staff for their conscientious work for the school. Of many school committees of which he had had experience he had never known better ones than those which had existed in Cromwell. In referring to the Home and School Association, he was appreciative of the good work done by its members but regretted that more parents had not seen fit to support an organisation designed to benefit the pupils of the school. Mr Simpson then made reference to other impending changes in the staff. Miss Ray Mcy; aright, who is shortly to be married, Miss J. Wither, a relieving assistant, Miss S. C. Thomas, who had. completed her year as probationary assistant, and Mr J. Anderson, relieving woodwork instructor, were all severing their connection with the Cromwell school staff. Miss 0. Irwin, infant mistress, presented Miss McNaught with a small gift, and offered her the best wishes of those present for her future happiness.
