Destruction and Theft of Public Property Deplored

Arising from a request from the Cromwell branch of the Red Cross Society for permission to improve the interior of the Women’s Rest Room, received by the borough council at its meeting last Thursday night, councillors cited instances of removal and destruction of public property Avithin the borough. It Avas not long ago since the council had furnished the Rest Room. Avith curtains, matting and mirrors, it was stated. The curtains had since been stolen, the matting and mirrors replaced Avith older articles and there Avas evidence of petty destruction. The Mayor, Mr W. Partridge, deplored the public attitude towards the CromAvell Memorial grounds. He stated that .the council spent a considerable amount of money each year on the upkeep of the grounds and rencAval of bulbs and plants. Flo Avers had been removed and bulbs had been stolen before they had time to grow. He hoped that in the future the public Avould protect their public property and that persons found destroying or removing same would be severely dealt Avith.
