Mayor Thanks Council At Conclusion of Tri-ennial Term

Before the Queenstown Borough Council at the final meeting of its triennial term went out of office, the Mayor, Dr W. A, Anderson, took occasion to thank the council for its support during the past three and a-half years. The relations between himself and the councillors, he said, had # been pleasureable and harmonious. A good deal had been accomplished in the town and much more was in prospect. He hoped the same amicable relations would obtain in the next council and that who ever was elected would work for the ultimate good of the town. In a report,of the activities of the council, the Mayor referred to the suceesful negotiations in respect of handing over the power undertakings of the council. Over the last . three years the council had spent £4444 15s lid on the camping ground. It was realised this trading concern had vast possibilities. The camping fees, including that received for hut rents oyer the same period amountqd to £2794 17s (id. In view of. the increasing number of campers the council had taken over the old recreation ground and had purchased a block of land from Mr J. B. Hamilton to replace it. This would be gradually improved and plans had been prepared for the erection of a first-class pavilion. The fire-fighting appliances in the town had been improved. Sewage and water connections had been extended, during the term of the council without increasing the rates. Or Wheatley thanked the Mayor for his report. “ What we have done has been for the progress of the town. We have not squandered money,” said Or Wheatley. He congratulated the mayor on his conduct of his important office and also on being elected again. Crs Hamilton and Thompson also thanked the mayor for his report. As with other councillors they always had the progress of the town in view. They hoped the incoming council would have a successful term.
