GIRLS’ SPORTS CLUB
INDOOR BASKETBALL CONCLUDES Tim indoor basketball season concluded ■with a Yankee tournament lield in tbe Garrison Hall on Thursday evening last when the Wilson Shield was competed for by the three club teams. The shield was donated by Mrs Wilson, of Invercargill, for seasonal competition within the club, the first team to win the shield being the Rata team. The members of the winning team were Mrs E. Nelson (captain), Misses K. McLean, R. Dagg, C. Dagg, M. Hocking, and E. Mcßride. The Kiwi and Tui teams were second and third respectively. Following the competition a social hour was spent at the Ambassadors Tea Rooms, where Mr E. R. Hopwood (president) presented the shield to the captain of the winning team, Mrs Nelson. Mr Hopwood congratulated the club upon a most successful season and made eulogistic reference to the work of Miss Christie (chairwoman) and Mr Donaldson (club coach). He also stated that the members’ enthusiasm and loyalty to the club had formed the background to a successful season. Miss Christie referred to the high standard of play which had been maintained during the year, stating that three members had gained representative honours in provincial competitions. Ihe speaker also referred to the excellent service Mr T. Donaldson had rendered to the club as coach and controller of games, and as a mark of appreciation handed Mr Donaldson a gift from the club members. Supper was served, after which vocal items were given by Miss i*. Cosgrove, Mrs T. Donaldson, Mr J. McDonald and a party of members.
