Wanaka
Inspection of Pigeon Island To be Made Wanaka Islands Domain Board Thje track on Pigeon Island, from the wharf to the lake, had been repaired, the wharf is to be reconditioned, and an inspection of the island by board members is to be made in the near future, it was reported at a meeting of the Wanaka Islands Domain Board on August 7. Dr A. D. G. Blanc was in the chair. Application from Mrs Ivan Carson for a pumping site on the foreshore was granted, subject to approval of the Lands and Survey Department. Removal of gravel from the foreshore is to cease, it was decided. It was resolved that the removal of gravel be subject to the approval of the secretary and that a charge of Is per yard be made. Notices to this effect are to be placed at the gravel pit. The charge of Is per yard may be waived in the case of approved local bodies.
Milling Logs Felled
The chairman reported that some trees along the shelter belt at the Showgrounds ' had been felled, and several milling logs and some firewood and cones had as a result been obtained. The logs are, to be milled for the use of the board, and the firewood and cones were advertised for sale. Application had been made to the Lake County Council for the use of a bulldozer to carry out the following work: — Clearing a track along the foreshore from the wharf to the Showgrounds; levelling the ground near the swimming baths: levelling .portion of the camping grounds, it was reported. The removal of tree stumps from the roadside near the wharf and the felling of several trees on the foreshore was being undertaken, and donations of several seats had been received. Messrs Templeton and Robertson were appointed to draw up plans and sppeifications for improved facilities on the camping grounds.
Tho concert, which must have entailed a great deal of preparation, was a credit to the two teachers, Mr L. M. Farrant and Miss A. Nicoll. During the evening Mr S. Faulks, chairman of the school committee, thanked the public for their support. At the conelusioon of the concert supper was served to the children.
