SUCCESSFUL CONCERT

£37 For School Funds A total of £37 was raised for the Wanaka School funds by the annual concert held in the Wanaka hall last Friday evening. There was a large and appreciative audience. The headmaster, Mr L. M. Farrant, in his opening remarks, gave a special vote of thanks to Miss P. Mauson and Mrs H. Sinclair (accompanist for the evening), Miss A. Nicoll (the assistant teacher), and Mesdames H. Halliday and D. Grant, who assisted with the costumes for the various items.

The programme consisted of a wide variety of items and each child in the school from tiny tots to standard six had a part to take in. the evening’s entertainment. There were several plays, all of which were well acted. Those who took part in “ Bedtime Story” were all infant room pupils; each one recited a nursery rhyme and was dressed to represent the part. Those taking part in the other plays were appropriately costumed and it was evident that a great deal of work had been put into these, as they were most effective.

There were also recitations, duets, junior and senior verse, singing by juniors and seniors, a pianoforte solo, and folk dances. A sketch “ Eumour,” which dealt with the survey and proposed raising of the lake, was well received bv the audience.
