OUTSTANDING SUCCESS

Plunket Society Ball

The most successful social function in Queenstown this season was the Plunket Society’s Annual Ball, held on Wednesday last.

Undeterred by the poor facilities available for shell • a function, the Society’s Committee left no stone unturned in an effort to decorate the Garrison Hall in an artistic and colourful manner, The bright colours of the lighting and streamers provided wonderful effects against a background of greenery. The function was well patronised and an excellent feature of the evening was the Grand March, which was led by Dr W. A. Anderson and Mrs Anderson, followed by Mr Humphrey Davies and Mrs Davies (president of the society).

During the evening two. Lucky Spot waltzing competitions" wore held, the winners being Miss J. Hunter and Mr Ensor, Mrs E. McNeil and partner. The guessing competition was won by Mr J. Neylon, junr., of Nightcaps. Supper arrangements were in the hands of an energetic committee, who treated patrons in a very generous manner with both quantity and quality. The excellence of the supper was the subject of much commendation. At the conclusion of the ball 'surplus cakes were disposed of with good financial results. The dancing 8 was ably controlled by Messrs Tom Donaldson, L. G. Lynch and W. E. Robins, who combined well with the popular McNamara’s, Dance Band in giving patrons a well-balanced programme of music and dancing. It is understood that the financial results exceeded all expectations and will substantially add to the amount of the new building fund. Altogether the function was an unqualified success, and much "credit is due to the ladies of the society.
