“OUR HONOURED PROFESSION ”
Student Nurses Needed at Dunedin Public Hospital In the forward to a booklet on nursing, the president of the Student Nurses’ Association, Auckland Hospital, Nurse E. Chamberlain, writes “We need help and assistance to cope with the tremendous burden of work which at present is falling on the shoulders of those who have felt the call to our honoured profession.” A campaign for young women to join the Dunedin Public Hospital and study as student nurses is now under way. Details appearing in our advertising columns on the front page. Nurse Chamberlain says “ You will find that it is truly said that life is richer for the understanding and the ability to help and comfort others in times of need and how often such times arise in our lives these days.” Nurse Chamberlain made a strong point when she says “ I do not think one of us who has already entered this profession could be found who would change this living interest for a life of unconstructive monotony.” Young women of Otago are asked to give the question of joining “ Our Honoured Profession ” serious and favourable consideration and to arrange for a personal interview with the Lady superintendent of the Dunedin Public Hospital.
