QUEENSTOWN BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY

A meeting’ of the Queenstown Beautifying Society was held in the Library on May 27. There were present Messrs J. McDonald, B. .Marshall. G. Buxton, B. A. Vereoe, M. T. Robertson. J. L. Lindsay, L. Evans. W. D. Warren and C. M. Tnglis. Apologies were received from the president. L. C. X. Wilson. J. Keen and D. W. Thompson. Mr C. M. Inglis was voted to the chair in tin*, absence of the president. It was resolved to change the name of the organisation from ‘‘Queenstown Garden Club” to ‘■Queenstown Beautifying Society.” Donations were received from the following:—J. X. Armour, £2 2s; J. D. Gilmore, £1 Is; J. L. Lindsay, £l. The following competitions were agreed upon: —Best kept garden and frontage, with special attention to the footpath bordering on the property. This competition is divided into two classes, one for those employing hired labour and one for those not employing hired labour Xumber three competition is for the best kept frontage, with special attention to footpath bordering the property. A class is devoted to school gardens. Tlu> minimum area is 10 feet by ti feet and is confined to children of school age. The main features to be observed are display, cultivation and maintenance. Cups have been presented for the first two classes and awards will be arranged for the other classes at a later date. The secretary was instructed to prepare a circular for distribution among property owners showing the details of the competitions' and to invite donations. It was recommended that the minimum subscriptions be 2s (id for adults and Is for children. It was also recommended that the judging be carried out at suitable intervals. It was decided to open an account in the Post Office Savings Bank.
