ENTERTAINMENTS

CONCERT AT PARAKAI.

Through the efforts, chiefly of Mr R H, Sarsfield, a former visitor and performer in Helensville, a concert in aid of seats for the Hot Springs Domain will be held in the Parakai Hall on Boxing Night. Some good local and visiting talent has been engaged and with the large number of visitors staying at the Springs there is sure to be a record attendance, Mr H. Aitkenhead has kindly consented to act as chairman. After the concert a dance will be held.

SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION The Church of England social, held last Thursday evening in the Agricultural Hal, was well attended, and the usual pleasant time was spent by all. The euchre tournament claimed a good many players and prizes were won by Mrs Malligan and Mr W.Curtis. Consolation prizes were awarded Mrs Watson and Mr A. Stewart, while extra prizes were won by Mrs Morgan and Mr J Ferrall During the evening a presentation was made by Rev Houchen, on behalf of the church, vestry and friends, to Mrs J, Vereoe, the popular secretary of the Ladies' Guild, for her untiring during the past twelve months* n»re especially in connection with the bazaar. Rev. Houchen made some very happy remarks while making the welldeserved presentation. An excellent Alight supper was partaken of during the Evening, and dancing was kept up till midnight. Music for the dances was played by Miss Verc-oe, and extras were contributed by Mr and Miss Malligan, Miss Keane, and Messrs Crammer and (violin) "ON OUR SELECTION." A notable picture attraction is advertised for the Lyric Theatre on Thursday evening, December 30th, when the famous and very humorous story of "On Our Selection" will ba screened. This picture is purely Australian in action and production, and patrons can count on spending an enjoyable time at the Lyric qn this occasion. The management have recently engaged ■Mr Stan Holland, violinist; to assist with the musip, and along with Miss C. Little's popular pianoforte selections, the music should be right up to date now,
