COMMISSIONER OF CROWN LANDS VISIT.

Mr R. P. Greville, Commissioner of Crown Lands, and Mr J. P. Wells, Land Purchase Commission, have been in Helensville the last few days inspecting properties which have been offered to the Government for sub-division for soldier settlement. On Monday they inspected Mr Bayley's property at Wharepapa, and on Tuesday and Wednesday they visited Mr Phillip's TeHeke Estate. The Commissioners wore accompanied by Mr H. Aitkenhead, a member of the Land Board. The properties inspected were considered suitable for sub-division, and provided they can be obtained at a satisfactory price, will probably be recommended for purchase,

Mr Greville also made an inspection of some of the sand drift areas, and is of the opinion that the drift can be successfully dealt with if the work is gone about in a systematic manner. Ho was much impressed "with the necessity of the work being put in hand soon, as under present conditions the drift is a serious menace to the fertile -flats in the Kaipara Valley.
