DISTRCT
A meeting of the above was held on Monday last, and many important matters were dealt with. The following remits were considered : —
The unnecessary delay without notice of the Northern trains on Race days.
The Conference strongly protested against the Railway Department refusing to carry dairy stock on the railways, as they considered it would seriously affect the dairy industry and the milk supply at this particular time of the year. The Railway Department to be requested to place a motor jigger at Helensville for the exclusive use of doctors, to visit sick persons, on account of the impassable state of the roads north of Helensville.
Arrangement for fat stock buyers to'operate in this district. The formation of a political policy for the New Zealand Farmers' Union.
A recommendation was sent in from one of the Branches that the Local Bodies Act be so amended that the appointment of chairmen of County Councils and Town and Road Boards be made by the ratepayers.
The carriage of cream on the railways at bulk rates, it being considered that the individual consignment was an injustice.
The introduction of legislation to prevent land agents charging two commissions on exchanges of property.
That the Stock Department place a veteniary surgeon in this district, and suggest Wellsford as a suitable centre.
That the Government grant assistance to local bodies to procure more efficient machinery for road making.
The Conference request that the Government convert the half-time schools in the country distiicts to full time schools.
