EDEN ELECTORATE.

REQUISITION TO MR AITKENHEAD

A representative deputation of electors of Eden waited upon Mr Aitkenhead, Chairman of the Waitemata County Council, last week, and presented him with a requisition asking him to become a candidate for the representation of Eden at the next general election. The requisition stated : "We are sure that if you will come forward as our candidate yre shall have a man who will be prepared under all circumstances to do the fair thing, a man who will not allow himself to be used for selfish or sectional interests, and, moreover, a man who from his position as Chairman of the Waitemata County Council is peculiarly able to understand the needs of the varied districts. Whilst recognising that you are eminently fitted to represent the farming community, your experience of town conditions will not allow you to overlook the claims of the town worker."

Mr Aitkenhsad, in reply, thanked the electors for their expression of confidence and said that it was. a matter which would require much consideration before giving a reply. This country is faced with very serious problems, which would need very careful handling at the present time. If he decided to accede to the request the electors could rely upon him dealing with public questions in a broad and liberal spirit.
