OBITUARY.
MR. ALFRED BECROFT
IT is with deep regret we have to record the death of one of the oldest residents of Helensville, in the person of Mr A. Becroft, who passed away at his late residence on the 25th inst, at the age of 66 years. Deceased had been in ill health for about two years, and within the past few months took to his bed. During his life time he took an active part in local affairs, being for many years a member of the Town Board, the School Committee, and Foresters Lodge He was-a man of sterling character, and temperate habits, always willing to give valuable advice, and assist the needy. Arriving in New Zealand with his parents in 1862, they settled at Port Albert, and four years later he came to Helensville, and started business as a builder and contractor. Here also he married, and has reared a family of nine. Three of his sons have been on active service during the war. Deceased leaves a wife, four daughters and five eons to mourn their loss.
The funeral took place to-day (Thursday), and was very largely attended, the Rev. A. V. Venables officiating at the graveside.
