HELENSVILLE APPEAL CASE.
An appeal from a decision of Mr F. V. Fraser, S.M., was heard by Mr Justice Stringer at the Supreme Court last week. The appellant, Joseph Jorgensen, fisherman, of Helensville (Mr Field), had, on the information of James P. Ridings, Collector of Customs at Auckland (Mr Selwyn Mays), been fined £1 and 7s costs for carrying on a licensed fishing-boat a double-barrelled sporting gun, that being contrary to the regulations under the provisions of the Sea Fisheries Act, 1894, and gazetted on September 5, 1907. After hearing argument, His Honor said he was quite satisfied that a regulation of the kind was essential, and, unless there was clearly good reason in law, he would not upset the regulation as it now stood. However, the matter was of some importance, and he would reserve judgment in the meantime.
