VALEDICTORY.
MR. A. JOHNSON
ON Tuesday evening of last week a number of the railway employees gathered together in Miss Harrison's refreshment rooms, Helensville, to bid adieu to Mr Andrew Johnson, who has been stationed here as locomotive driver for the past six years. Mr Alex. Hammond performed the amiable, and presented the guest with an umbrella and inkstand, and Mrs Johnson with a travelling rug, on behalf of his fellow workmen. Mr Johnston suitably replied for both his wife and himself, and expressed regret at leaving behind so many kind friends.
Mr Johnson has been transferred to Newmarket, and Mr C. McPhaii has taken his place on the Helensville line.
MR. T. YOUNG
On Saturday afternoon last a convivial afternoon was spent at the Helensville Railway Station, when the staff took the opportunity of bidding farewell to Mr T. Young (railway clerk), and wishing him the best of luck in his new sphere. He has been stationed here for about eighteen months, and was always courteous and obliging. Mr H. F. Mirams, stationmaster, made the presentation, which took the form of a very nice suit case, and in an appropriate speech wished the recipient good fortune and prosperity in the future. Messrs Cooper, Hammond, Goonan, and Campbell also spoke in the same strain.
Mr T. Young has been promoted to station master at Ohaupo.
MR AND MRS FLEMING,
A very pleasant function took place at Eddlestone's BoardingHouse at the Spings on Tuesday evening last, the occasion being a send-off to Mr and Mrs Fleming and family, who are leaving this district for Dargaville. Mr Fleming has been creamery manager for Amburv and Co., at Parakai, for a number of years. A splendid programme was arranged, and musical items were rendered by Mr and Mrs D. Rennie, Miss Aitkenhead, Mr Eddleston, and Victor A.itkenhead. Recitations were delivered by Miss Farrell (a visitor), Mr and Vera Fleming. Mr New gave a few gramaphone selections. Miss Allenbury also contributed a few vocal items.
During the evening Mr Fleming was presented a gold albert and pendant, and Mrs Fleming with a gold watch, as a. token of the high esteem in which they were held by the residents of Parakai.
