HELENSVILLE SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE MEETING,
A MEETING of the above was held in the school-room on Monday evening last, when all the members were present with the exception of Mr A.. Becroft, who has been in poor health for some weeks past.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
A letter was read from the Board of Education stating that a £ for £ subsidy had been granted by the Department for the formation of a new tennis court in the school grounds. The amount of £21 5s lOd is now available for expenditure. Another subscription of 15s was received for the proposed swimming bath ; but nothing will be done in this matter till the weather settles somewhat.
A large amount of correspondence was dealt with in reference to a High School for Helensville, and after a great deal of discussion the following resolution was carried—That the Secretary write to the Education Board, Auckland, and demand an explanation of the misrepresentation made by the Board to the Council of Education, Wellington, with regard to the number of proficiency pupils ayailable to attend the proposed High School for Helensville.
There was also a resolution passed to the effect that the Secretary write to Mr Harris (acting Member for this district), informing him that the Helensville School Committee has demanded an explanation from the Education Board of its misrepresentation re the number of proficiency pupils. Upon receipt of the Board's explanation the Committee will communicate with him.
It was also decided that a copy of the letter' sent to the Board will be sent to Mr R, C. Smith, representative on the Board for this district.
