FIRE BRIGADE CONCERT.

ON Thursday evening last, 6th inst., a benefit concert, organised by Mrs McGarvey, assisted by Mrs Simmons, in aid of the local Fire Brigade funds, was held in the Star Theatre. Owing to the inclement state of the weather the attendance was not so good as it should halve been, but this was compensated.for by the number of tickets sold previously. Altogether the takings amounted to about £14 which will go towards the funds of the Helensville Volunteer Fire Brigade.

The stage was nicely' arranged for the occasion. The opening piece was a very pretty tableaux entitled " Britannia and Her Allies," Miss V. Hafford looking very effective as Britannia, while her Allies were represented by the children appropriately costumed.

Miss M. Cook gave several splendid recitations, for which she was encored. She was especially good in "We don't want to lose You," and the " Game of Life."

Kathleen Hand was applauded for recitation, "Where do the ships Go ?"

Little Nellie Sellars charmed the audience with her song, 'lAre you half the Man your Mother thought you Were ?" and had to respond to an encore.

Rosie Allen recited with great expression and confidnnce, " Away back in the Sixties," and looked very dainty in her jockey colours.

"Goosie Gander," a quaint dance-song was accurately performed by a number of school children, and greatly enjoyed. A duet by Boy Hand and Molly Meinhold, " The keys ofHeaven," was nicely rendered.

Roie Parkes .was amusing in her recitation " Lazy Sally." Song and chorus, " I'll make a Man of You," by school girls, concluded the first part of the programme.

The second part opened with " Living Statuary and Cupids." by Roi Parkes, Molly Meinhold, N. Goonan, Rosie Allen, Nellie Sellars and M. Field.

The " Moth Dance " was very gracefully performed by E. New, J. Sellars, and E. McGaryey. Kathleen McGarvey and E, Ellett were thoroughly appreciated in their " Hungarian Bell Dance.",

Boy Hand played a pianoforte solo, "The Swing Song," with great expression.

A pretty dance, "Moonsprites," by the school children, terminated the programme. The Hall was then cleared for dancing, which was continued till wee sraa' hours. The music was supplied by Miss M. Cullens, and Messrs J. Bradly and C. Russell made efficient Ms.C. A delightful supper, provided by the members of the Brigade, was served in the supper-room, and greatly appreciated.
