THE KAIPARA RIVER.

MEETING AT WAIMAUKU.

ASSOCIATION FORMED.

A MEETING of settlers was held at the Waimauku Public Hall on Saturday, August 18th, with the object of forming an association to clear timber and other obstacles in that part of the Kaipara River, so as to prevent flooding and damage to the property of the settlers adjoining. There were about 30 settlers present, Woodhill, Rewiti, and Wharepapa being represented. Mr R. Hoe occupied the chair, and outlined a scheme, which the settlers should endeavour to have carried into effect. After, some discussion it was resolved that the name of the Association be the " Kaipara River Clearing Association," and that the membership be 5s per annum. Mr R. Hoi was elected as President, and Mr C. A. Tarrant as Secretary.

From what we can learn it appears that a proposal to clear the Kaipara River was brought forward some years ago and, we understand, the "Waitemata County Council went so far as to pass a resolution to the effect that a drainage board be formed to deal with the matter. The resolution, however, was not carried into effect, and the settlers have been in consequence great sufferers through floods.
