The annual meeting of the Awaroa Bowling Club will be held in the Lyric Theatre on Thursday evening next, 6th September.
Miss M. Robinson, Woodhill, has a notice in this issue re art needlework and Indian basketry.
There will be a memorial service for the late Private R. Pengelly in the Woodhill Hall on Sunday evening next, 2nd September, at 7 p.m.
A meeting will be held in the Lyric Theatre to-night (Thursday), when an an address will be given by Mr A. A. Creamer, President of the Second Division League. /
The usual monthly euchre party. and dance, promoted by the Church of England Ladies' Guild, will be held in the Star Theatre on Monday evening next, September 3.
Owing to the heavy increase in the cost of tyres, benzine, etc., the Hot Spring Motor Co. have decided to raise the fares to the Springs to Is 6d single and 2s return.
Staff Sergt.-Major Johnson is now stationed in Helensville, having taken over the duties of Sergt.-Major Stokes, who is instructing the Maori contingents) at Narrow Neck Camp. Sergt.-Major Johnson is a returned soldier, having been wounded in the right arm.
Owing to the unsettled state of the weather the Helensville Golf Club has decided to extend the closing date for Mr and Mrs Stringer's trophies to 30th September. Players who have not entered their cards will, therefore, have an opportunity of doing so. N
Mr Frank Oldershaw is at present in Helensville arranging for the screening of the Government war film, " The Battle of the Ancre," showing the famous tanks in action. It will be shown on Thursday, September 13th, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Lyric Theatre.
The War Loan public meeting, which was aarrnged for Thursday, evening last, fell through, the attendance being very small, owing to the extremely bad state of the weather at the time. Before dispersing it was decided to make a further announcement 011 the following Saturday evening at the two Picture Theatres, and this was accordingly done by the Chairman of the Town Board.
There was on exhibition in Stewart's butchery widow on Friday evening last a very fine display of daffodils and jonquils, numbering altogether 200 picked specimens. These were grown by Mr T. Elliott, Awaroa Road, and were presented by him to be sold at Paddy's Market in Auckland. The blooms sold readily, and, we understand, quite a large amount was realized by the sale thereof.
The usual monthly military memorial service takes place on Sunday afternoon next in the Star Theatre at 2.30 p.m. when Mr J. B. King will deliver an appropriate address. All local and military bodies are requested to attend, and will fall in at the Agricultural Hall at 2 p.m. sharp. A collection will be made, the proceeds of which go to the Women's Patriotic League.
