THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE." HELENSVILLE, THURSDAY, Aug 30, 1917 SEPTEMBER THE THIRD,
READERS, you are reminded that the time is getting short for you to subscribe to the War Loan. If you want your liberty upheld, if you cannot fight, then "the next best thing to do is to subscribe ! If v/e lose this war (and it is not won yet) all the privileges and freedom of speech will be crushed out of us. Don't forget Nurse Caville, the fiendish destruction of French hospitals, and the sinking of unarmed yessels, and do your best to keep the British flag flying. It is no use singing " Britons never, never shall be
slaves," unless every means are put forward to keep the pirates away from our doors. Remember, we are undertaking a gigantic task both on land and sea. The silent Navy. What has it done ? It has so far kept us in N-ew Zealand free from any practical demonstration of bloody warfare. Don't forget the noble, ever-cheerful courage of the seamen watching the great fleet of the enemy, with guns trained night and day, in all kinds of weather, protecting the routes of our commerce, and do your little bit by subscribing. Remember September 3rd is the last day, and the appeal is urgent.
