POULTRY HINTS.
A mosn common cause of hens flying out of the run is their not having a sufficient supply of food. A good layer must necessarily be a big eater, and must therefore have a large crop-development. Absolute cleanliness is the great safeguard in keeping insect pests at bay. Over-feeding of rich foods and want of exercise is the chief cause of leg.weakness in growing stock, while it is somstimos due to constitutional weakness. Poultry-sick ground is not conducive to the maintenance of fowls in good health, -which is imperative if theyare to lay to the best advantage. increasing the number of stock kept does not necssarilv mean increased profits. Strict attention to details is the great determining factor, the essentials of which are the right class of steck, good housing, cleanliness, and a sound systom of feeding.
