TO PRIVATES MORRIS, TORBET AND VERCOE.

Another function of a similar nature to the above was held in the same Hall on Monday evening last, 19th inst., the guests of honour being Privates Morris, Torbet and Vercoe (of the 24th Reinforcements), and needless to say there was a big gathering present. The evening was rather warm for dancing,, but nevertheless the Ms.C. (Messrs Connelly and Vercoe) kept things going merrily, and Miss M. Cullens supplied delightful dance music. Songs were contributed by Mrs Baker and Mr M. McGarvey, and a couple of natives also sang in good style, causing much amusement.

Staff Sergt.-Major Stokes made a short speech, and wished the departing soldiers the best of luck in their new sphere of adventure. Each man was presented with a pair of socks from the Ladies' Patriotic Committee, and a safety razor will also be forwarded to each of them in a few days.

Light refreshments, supplied by the ladies, were handed round; and full justice-was done to the goods things provided. It was the intention of the Town Band to play several selections, but as some of the, members were unavoidablyabsent, it was deemed advisable not to do so. The happy gathering broke up about 2 a.m., after spending a most enjoyable time. \ ■•■-■■ ■.
