Householders and others who are on the look out for cheap drapery and clothing, etc., would do well to visit the Ideal Drapery Co's sale, on premises recently occupied by Hopmeier's fruit and vegetable show, Echo . Terrace. They close down here on Saturday. . We have just received the first copy of " Anzac," published in Mangonui township, which is determined not to be wiped out through political influence and the removal of the "Age"- to Kaitaia. Though the venture is small for a beginning, it is full of interesting matter, and is well written and printed by the plucky proprietor, W. A. Wilton, who managed the " Age " during its life, and we wish him every success. As Dick Wrathall is now out of hospital for some time, there will soon be some racy and spicy yarns to spin.
A very interesting football match was played on the Helensville school ground on Saturday afternoon last, in very boisterous weather. The contest was between the Helensville and Te Pua school teams, the former winning by 16 points to 14. For the home team, T. Geldard, T. Sellars, Hughes, and Baker scored tries, while Hughes and Baker converted. For the visitors, tries were secured by M. Montgomery (2), S. Kanerei, and D. McCarthy. Thanks are due to the public for supplying the boys with oranges during the spell, J. Bennett officiated as referee.
If it is desired by the settlers on theand who make the town, and it should be so, then the ECHO wishes to prevail upon them the importance of keeping "their organ" going, by supplying it with every available valve in order to let the music of progress and suggested improvements go a good goer. Certainly it will cost contributors the postage, but then, on the other hand, as we make no charge for their half-columns at a time, it is clearly a matter of ' quid pro que.'— Try it, please, and while you are at it, get us a few new good subscribers to help mv. the cyc'.e of time. ' Noblese oblige."*
An attractive bill of picture fare is submitted this Saturday, at the Star Theat re . The most enjoyable film is O'Garry of the Mounteds, the great Out-west romance, depicting life on the western goldfields. It is a vivid presentation of the lives of men and . one woman out in the wilds. For Wednesday evening next Sons of Satan, by the celebrated William Le Queux, may be seen at the same theatre. The story is a well-known one, and the picture version will be greatly appreciated by those who enjoy following the unravelling of a deep and baffling mystery.
