THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE." HELENSVILLE, THURSDAY, Aug. 24, 1916 SIR JOSEPH WARD HAPPY.

GREAT SUCCESS OF LOAN

SPREADING THE GOOD NEWS.

THE Minister for Finance, Sir Joseph Ward, on Tuesday last sent the following telegram to every newspaper in the Dominion, including the ECHO :—" I am glad to be able to inform you that applications for the War Loan total a little over £9,250,000. This is eminently satisfactory, and speaks eloquently of the fine feeling of the inhabitants and their desire to be associated with the Motherland in helping in an unparalleled crisis. Happily, at present, the signs of victory are more pronounced than has bee n the case since the beginning of the struggle, and the subscription of such a large sum of money, in ten days, by the most distant of the Overseas Dominions, is a happy augury for the future."

EVERY POUND WANTED,

Though the £8,000,000 War Loan was over-subscribed, every pound is required. The Minister for Finance has authority to borrow from the public, £16^000,----000 in all. Further inducement is, therefore, held out to the small capitalist and patriotic investor —as per display advertisement on next page—" To Help Win the War," by procuring Loan Certificates from all Postmasters, at 16/-, for which you get £1 in five years' time ; or £8 certificates, for which the investor will receive £10 in five years' time. Th'.s is much better than dotting your savings in the P.O. Bank remain at 3% per cent interest, and, above all else, is assisting our beloved God's Own to tide over the great expense of help to "Win the War" for Liberty, Freedom, and British fair-play for all countries.
