SHOULD WE ECONOMISE?
The views of notable people on the question of personal economy in wartime is a question that will interest every woman reader. In " Everylady's Jourual " for June the Minister of Defence and Mrs Pearce, Mr Theodore
Fink,- Mrs James of the Overseas Club, and Mr O. Williams, one of the leading bankers of Australia, all contribute short articles on the subject of economy and thrift. They all agree that it is necessary that we should economise, but they also agree that the best way to do this is to spend judiciously and not to hoard savings and go short on necessities. As Mr Fink says: "What we want is a campaign of thrift, and it is not a moment too soon to begin ; money spent or invested wisely is patriotic, money put into luxuries, gambling, and amusements is waste of national strength." In the June of "Everylady's Journal" the 'editorhas followed this note throughout" For example, there are pages of advice on the most economical methods of buying and cooking food, and there are pages devoted to hints on how money may be made as well as saved. Among the special features in this issue is a beautifully illustrated article in which Mr Leslie Gaze— the well-known actortells readers how a living may be made from keeping pigeons. An illustrated story from that highest salaried person in the world-Mr Charlie Chaplin-is well worth reading. It seems to us the • patriotic duty of every woman to buy "Everylady's Journal" as a genuine. Australian magazine. Its fine stories, fashion designs, and free patterns, make it fine value for 7d. If unobtainable locally, will be sent post free for six months it a 3/6 postal note is sent to T. Shaw Fitchett, 376 Swanston Street, Melbourne.
