WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE.
PARAKAI BRANCH,
LAST Thursday, Bth inst., a very enjoyable afternoon was given by Mrs Jas. McLeod and the Misses Brown, in the form of a Red Cross Tea, which was held in the Parakai Hall. The object was to raise funds for buying comforts for our soldier boys. Over thirby ladies were present, most of them bringing their knitting. A drawing competition was held, each lady receiving a slip of paper with name of creature to be drawn. These were then fastened on the wall, and all the ladies were to guess the names of creatures as drawn. Many curious creatures, whose forefathers never saw the Ark, came to light Then followed a delicious afternoon tea Madame Zona, the latest palmist from the city, was in attendance, to tell any lady what the future held for her.
The afternoon's proceeds amounted to £3 3s, jwhich sum the committee hope to augment by the concert on the 15th inst.
