TUESDAY. MAY 23RD
PRESENT
Comrs. E. T. Field (chairman), A. Becroft, T. Elliott, J. F. Lambert, G. Sellars, and the clerk (Mr H. W. Stringer). An apology for non-attendance was received from Mr Wilson, on account of illness. MINUTES Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE Outward correspondence .was comfirmed. APPLICATION FOR CROSSING. Mr Screaton applied for a crossing to be erected in front of his premises in Commercial Road. —It was decided that a permit be granted, same to be erected under supervision of Board's Foreman, and at applicant's expense. NOT WANTED HERE. A letter was received from the Auckland Provincial Employers' Association in connection with the Labourers' Union's applica~ tion to the Conciliation Commissioner for an award to cover all Local Bodies' employees in the Auckland Provincial District, in regard to conditions.of work and rates of wages. —On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Com. Lambert, it was decided to send a reply to the effect that the Board is in sympathy with the -counter-proposals to be put forward, but as the Board is not affected, they cannot see their way to spending ratepayers' money to fight same.
CLOSING A ROAD,
A letter was received from the Waitemata County Council, stating that they had no power to close the road above the Board's watershed, but would put no obstacle in the Board's way if they wished to have it closed under the Public Works Act. — The Chairman proposed and Com. Becroft seconded — That the Board's solicitor be asked to take the necessary steps to have the road closed.—Carried unanimously. CONCRETE BRIDGE ANTICIPATED. On the motion of Com. Elliott, seconded by Com. Sellars, it was decided that no tender be accepted at present for decking the bridge over Awaroa Creek, but that an application be made to the Government for a subsidy to assist in erecting aferro-concrete bridge. NELSON-STREET IMPROVEMENTS. It was decided on the motion of Com. Lambert, seconded by Com. Becroft, to spend up to £75 on the formation and metalling of Nelson Street. PAYUP YOUR RATES. On the motion of Com. Ellio tt seconded by Com. Sellars, it was decided to advertise that all rates unpaid within 14 days from date be sued for without further notice. GKT IN YOUR DRAINS. ! Com. Elliott proposed and Com Sellars seconded —That unless all. business places connect with the town sewer, proceedings will be taken to compel owners to do so. TOWN BAND RULES. The rules of the Town Band were submitted to the Board, and approved by them.
