OPENING OF HELENSVILLE

RIFLE RANGE

THE opening of the above rifle range took place on Saturdayafternoon last, and the event was a decided success. The public were invited, and treated with the utmost hospitality, everyone having a practice at the targets, wMle the ladies dispensed afternoon tea. The members of the Rifle Club had their photos taken < in one group, while the ladies ' were taken in another group, with the rifle butts as a background. Slight showers of rain prevailed during the afternoon, but this did not interfer<^j|cany way with the shooting. opening was in the fornt^of a shooting match, between President F. Stewart's team and Lieut. • Garry's team, the latter winning by 12 points. The best shot was ■. Mr J. A. Wilson, who made 35 — 10 shots at 200 yards ; Stewart and Scott coming next with 34 each, out of the possible of 40. The , totals were : President's team, 502; Lieut. Garry's team, 514. Later on, the ladies had a shot at the target, Mrs Garry 1.. winning, with Mrs Vercoe taking \>/ second place. Following are the scores :— President F.
