NEWSPAPER POSTAGE

One source of additional revenue is being overlooked by the Government (says a contemporary.) All newspapers posted to plaoes in the Dominion have to bear a half-penny stamp. The paper weighing, an' ounce has to pay as much as the paper weighing a pound. Why ? The Government does not carry all parcels at a uniform rate. The only persons benefited by the present system are the wealthy city proprietaries publishing large newspapers, which would be none the worse for a good deal of judicious condensation. The one commercial and fair system of postage on newspapers is a charge at. per pound • A newspaper sends all its " posteds'! to the Post Office in one lot. they are weighed in bulk, and a charge made for the lot at per pound, no stamps being used. Our contemporaries should give this matter their attention.
